Time and time again we’ve discussed Saint Laurent, formerly Yves Saint Laurent pre-Hedi Slimane, and its logo heavy assortment. Known for its instantly identifiable, bold YSL hardware, under the direction of first Hedi Slimane and now Anthony Vaccarello, the brand has produced shape after silhouette that are not quite the same, but not entirely different either.
While it’s easy to scoff at a lack of creativity or find fault with the brand resting on its logos, this strategy has continuously worked well for the brand. Though year after year Saint Laurent does produce a small variety of logo-free bags, now more than ever it seems that Vaccarello is shying away from the logo love of his predecessor. For fall/winter 2020 the brand has released a sleek new shoulder bag that is virtually logo-free. Introducing the Saint Laurent Elise Bag.
Brand new this season, the Elise features a refined silhouette with clean lines, a structured bottom and a slightly curved top. This shoulder bag oozes Saint Laurent’s distinct luxury and it’s one of the more structured and polished designs we’ve seen from the brand in a few seasons. While the bag itself is simple in design, it also features understated detailing like an antique gold chain strap, which can be removed, allowing the bag to be carried as a clutch as well as over the shoulder. The chain itself does feature a tiny YSL charm that seamlessly blends into the otherwise muted strap, but other than that, this sleek bag features zero branding whatsoever.
Though on the simple side, something that’s admirable about Saint Laurent as a brand is they’ve always stuck to designs that work for them, and while this design is simplistic, it’s the perfect mix of both classic and trendy. With its clean lines and compact baguette-like shape, there’s a place for this bag in any handbag lover’s closet. The bag features a magnetic snap closure as well as two interior pockets and overall dimensions are 7.8″ L x 11″ W x 3.7″ D. Currently the embossed croc version is available for pre-order via Louisviaroma for $2,490 while the shiny lambskin version is $2,390 via Saint Laurent.
