All Things Tiny Stole the Show at Chanel for Spring 2021

Virginie Viard debuted her newest collection for Chanel earlier this week in Paris. The show took place inside of Paris’s stunning Grand Palais, showcasing a set and collection inspired by Hollywood Glamour. While many fashion houses are scaling back their thinking and assessing whether glitz and glam are a thing of the past, at Chanel, glamour is alive and well. The set, though more simplistic than years past, was evocative of such a time, and it even included massive CHANEL lettering inspired by the Hollywood Sign.

As a whole, the collection possessed a retro vibe meets modern appeal, with cool pink denim and updated takes on classic Chanel tweed. When it came to the bags, they were slightly more elegant than Viard’s past post-Lagerfeld collections, which were absent of the often over-the-top, but wearable art-like designs that Lagerfeld was known for. Micro bags were of the many, including tiny top handle vanity cases, hand-carried micro belt-bags and metal flap bags that seemed part handbag, part jewelry. Other standout pieces were a caged-like metal flap silhouette and a pearl-embellished quilted flap. It’s worth noting that more extreme novelty designs were not seen on the runway this season, nor was the brand’s new Chanel 19, which has been a focus for Chanel the last few seasons. Take a look below at bags from the runway.
